Ekushey Boi Mela (Amar Ekushey Grantha Mela) 2016

The Ekushy Boi Mela (Amar Ekushy Grantha Mela) 2016 inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday at 3 PM. This Boi mela is arranged by Bangla Academy every year from the 1st day of February which is  dedicated to the martyrs died on 21 February 1952 in a demonstration calling for the establishment of Bangla  as the state languages of former East Pakistan. This is the 38th event organized by Bangla Academy. The theme of this year’s fair is the diamond jubilee of Bangla Academy, marking the 60 years of the institution. Like the previous year, the venue of the fair has been extended to the nearby Suhrawardy Udyan.The authorities have allotted a total of 651 units – 111 at the Bangla Academy ground to 82 organizations and 540 at Suhrawardy Udyan to 320 organizations. Besides, 15 pavilions have been allocated for 14 publishing houses, including Bangla Academy. The history of starting of Ekushy Boi mela is like this - Muktodhara Publishing house started a little sale in front of Bangla Academy  in the 21 February 1972. Chittaranjan Saha of Muktodhara took the initiative. Later, other book publishers joined unofficially. Gradually it became official and the most popular book fair of Bangladesh. Bangla Academy took over organization of the fair in 1978. In 1984 it was named Amar Ekusy Book Fair.
